Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is used to help people recover from distressing events and the difficulties they have caused. When a traumatic event occurs, the brain may be unable to fully process what has happened and so memory of the event can become 'stuck'. EMDR helps the brain reprocess the memory properly. It involves being asked to recall the traumatic event whilst receiving bilateral stimulation (for example, moving your eyes from side to side, guided by a therapist).
