Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

People with PTSD often relive a traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks. They may experience difficulties sleeping and may find it difficult to concentrate. They may also experience other mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression. The symptoms of PTSD are usually severe enough to have a significant impact upon the person's day-to-day life.

Any situation that a person finds traumatic can cause PTSD. It can occur immediately after the event or much later.

People who repeatedly experience traumatic situations may be diagnosed with complex PTSD.

Psychological therapy, in particular EMDR, can help to process the trauma so that it has less of an impact upon the the person.
